Today, Pena Palace was added to the Duckwyn Travel app. It was originally built as a small chapel on top of the Sintra Mountains during the Middle Ages.
King John II constructed a monastery on the site but it was destroyed during the Great Lisbon Earthquake of 1755. After decades of ruin, King Ferdinand II transformed it into the palace it is today in 1854.
The castle is located outside of Lisbon near the town of Sintra. Its architecture and views make this a castle not to be missed. Plan ahead and book your tickets before you arrive.
