Sachsenhausen was a Nazi concentration camp located just north of Berlin in Oranienburg. It operated from 1936 until April 1945 and held more than 200,000 prisoners—including political opponents, forced labourers, and prisoners of war.
Here, the Nazi regime subjected inmates to forced labour, brutal medical experiments, starvation, executions, and systematically built facilities such as a gas chamber and crematorium.
This destination is best suited for older audiences. My 12-year-old son, who is deeply fascinated by WWII history, would be interested in learning about it—but it’s a heavy visit, and not for everyone.
